Transducer Engineer

About Us

Our company specializes in innovative ultrasound technologies, providing cutting-edge consulting services across various industries, including medical imaging, non-destructive testing, and advanced sensing applications. We work with clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies, delivering customized solutions that push the boundaries of ultrasound technology.

Daxsonics' vision is to become the gold standard for interventional medical ultrasound technology development and contract manufacturing.

Role Purpose

Accountable for the design and development of ultrasound transducers for novel applications. This role reports to the Transducer Engineering Manager. Performance in this role will be evaluated on:

  • Alignment with Daxsonics Values

  • Successful delivery of project milestones

  • Improvements in work quality and productivity

Responsibilities and Authorities

  • Work independently and as part of a team to design ultrasound transducers to meet given specifications – acoustic, electrical, mechanical. Design work includes using modeling and simulation tools to design the acoustic material stackup, characterize the acoustic field, and determine characteristics such as element count and geometries.

  • Participate in the prototyping of transducers, this may include the use of specialized manufacturing equipment. This work also includes developing the fabrication processes and instructions.

  • Test products for conformance to specifications, including acoustic tank testing and electrical impedance testing. Analyze test data to summarize the performance of acoustic transducers.

  • Debug, troubleshoot, and iterate designs to resolve issues and achieve performance improvement in acoustic transducers.

  • Provide input for the optimization and manufacturing of products or processes.

  • Further optimize products for manufacturability, cycle time, and cost reductions.

  • Research opportunities in which products or processes may have the potential to be disruptive technology or new technology for future application.

  • Participate in design reviews and guide design, optimization, and potential process issues.

  • Assess shortfalls in products, materials, and processes.

  • Compile documentation according to Daxsonics’ and regulatory standards where required, including test reports, design documents, procedures, and status reports.

  • Coordinate the activities of technicians to optimize selected processes.

  • Work daily with quality, manufacturing engineering, and operations, providing improvement feedback and assisting with resolution of quality and manufacturing issues.

  • Provides support to engineers and technicians in training, problem solving, product or process characterization, design and development, process efficiency improvements and continuous improvement activities.

  • Mentor and coach peers in process characterization and continuous process/product improvements.

  • Work with industry standard ultrasound systems, such as a Verasonics research imaging system.

  • Use computer simulations to design acoustic stacks with piezo-electric materials, matching layers, backing layers, electrical matching, and other crucial parameters.

  • Prototype and test transducers using standard acoustic test setups.

  • Collaborate with Daxsonics Subject Matter Experts to solve technical challenges and optimize the design and build of transducers.

  • Project management activities such as task generation and delegation, preparing documents and reports, and communication with clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering, Masters, and PhD’s are an asset

  • Experience in transducer design and prototyping

  • Experience with MATLAB, Field II, and KLM software

  • Extensive knowledge of analyzing transducer performance through acoustic testing with standard ultrasound equipment: research machines, hydrophones, VNAs, and test tanks.

  • Work with piezoceramics and matching layers to manufacture prototype transducers: Dicing, lapping, evaporation, sputtering, wirebonding, and epoxy work.

  • Applies advanced analytical abilities in performing required analyses to identify problems, develop appropriate solutions and implement with available resources to complete complex assignments.

  • Strong technical and detail-oriented writing skills.

  • Manufacturing experience is an asset.

  • Working in a quality-controlled, medical device manufacturing environment is an asset.
